THE DEBATE CONTINUES

Despite this renewed interest in the K/T extinction, there still has to be plenty of research done to fully understand this event. Currently, there is a lot of paleoclimatic, paleoenvironmental and paleontological data regarding the extinction event; however, this data was compiled to support the earlier theories and is highly skeptical. Hopefully in the coming years, scientists can unlock the mystery of this event. Any new adequate extinction theories must explain not only the extinction of the dinosaurs but also the devastating effect the event had on the marine ecosystems.  It must also explain how many of the organisms survived the extinction and seem unaffected by the catastrophe. A perfect theory should also explain the other extinctions too. Extinctions occur with some periodicity; therefore a credible theory can also shed some light on the other extinctions along with explaining the K/T extinction.
