Amber can tell us a great deal about
the paleontological past, because it really is a window into the
past that has experienced little visual change over millions of
years.
The water inclusions containing the gas bubbles
on the rare inclusions page can tell us something about the air
on earth 40-50 million years ago.
Since Amber can be up to 345 million
years old, floral and faunae inclusions can be just as old. Therefore,
evolution of insects, (which do not generally preserve well in
the fossil record, outside of amber) can be recorded with great
detail.
