CEPHALOPODCEPHALOPOD
Cephalopods such as squid, octopus and nautilus lived in the Ottawa Area from
the upper Cambrian Period through the Ordovician. These orthocones had a long pointed shell such as seen in the environmental scene of the Billings Formation. A lot of these fossils that have been preserved in the Billings Formation shales are pyritized due to the anoxic conditions of the sea-floor during preservation.
