Teeth |

The Neanderthals had larger canines and incisors and the orientation of their jaw allowed for attachment of powerful chewing muscles. Unlike Cro-Magnons, the jaw actually moved sideways to chew as opposed to up and down. Evidence has been found indicating that they used their teeth as an extra hand. They would power-grip the material (as an example, an animal hide) between their teeth and scrape down and away with a sharp object. Their teeth have scratch and wear marks that indicate this action and interestingly diagnose most of the Neanderthals as right-handed. Sadly, many of the teeth found are improperly developped which indicates starvation. |
