Mineralogical composition is an extremely important variable in test morphology. Its formation is primarily a function of the environment in which the foraminifer lives and how that foraminifer biologically processes those elements deriving therein. There are three basic divisions for test wall compositions. These include agglutinated (cemented foreign particles), secreted calcium carbonate or silica, and finally proteinaceous organic-walled tests.
