The rationalists (which include scientists), require verification of something before it is accepted as fact. They generally accept that evolution exists and has occurred based on mountains of unrelated evidence. On the other side of the issue are the fundamentalist theologists, who accept "revealed truth", which means information that is literally interpreted from documents deemed to be sacred. As the literal interpretation of the present translation of the Book of Genesis claims, the universe was created in six days by an all-powerful supernatural being. Thus, this group of people do not accept evolution as it is in conflict with this interpretation.
