Homo Sapiens

 Homo sapiens are the hominid fossils dated from 300 000 years ago onward.  Some African fossils with dates of around 400 000 years ago are also labelled Homo sapiens.  The average brain size of Homo sapiens increased from roughly 1175cc, 0.2 million years ago to what is now the normal of about 1400cc.

There exists a period of time in the Middle Pleistocene where specimens differ in basically minor respects from modern sapiens which arrived in the Late Pleistocene.  These specimens are referred to as archaic sapiens.
