Barbados
is an ancient island, older than its volcanic neighbours in the Windwards,
and flat. The highest point on the island, Mt Hillaby, is only 340 meters
above sea level. The central sections of the island are characterized by
rolling valleys, farmland, and small settlements. Forests are dry and scrubby
in places, dotted with open pastures, sugarcane fields, and few rivers
and streams.
