Continental Drift

 

This is a paleogeographic reconstruction of the continent locations during the Middle to Late Ordovician.
The motion of the tectonic plates resulted in continental drift. The theory of continental drift states that the motion of tectonic plates has resulted in the motion of the continents found on the plates. This means that continents have travelled over time. During the Ordovician, North America, or Laurentia, was found at the equator. This was mentioned previously and used to explain the paleoecology and paleoenvironments. Paleomagnetic, paleoclimate and biogeographic data are used to infer patterns of continental drift. The names of oceans and continents are different.
