The fish skeletons found in the Champlain Sea are some of the best preserved specimens in the world.  A good number of remains are capelin (Mallottus villosus), and almost all of them are preserved in calcareous clay nodules. In many cases one is able to observe scales and fin rays, as well as axial and cranial skeletons.
