Pachyrhinosaurus
-described by
Sternberg, 1950 (Dodson, 1996). Its name means "thicknosed
reptile". Pachyrhinosaurus has a narrow beak and a
short crest. It does not have well developed horns over its
nose and eyes, but instead, the horn cores spread across the
top of the skull forming a massive buttress of bone (RTM,
1996). It is assumed that the large boss over the nose
supported some type of horn that was not composed of a bone
core, but rather was made of some type of soft (keratinous)
tissue which did not fossilize (Dodson, 1996).
Pachyrhinosaurus grew to about 6m in length, making
it one of the larger horned dinosaurs (Dodson,
1996).
