This
ancient bird displayed undoubtedly obvious reptilian features, but the
most important feature was a bony tail that was very long. If you remember
the structure of the modern bird, it had a short stubby tail, while the
Archaeopteryx had a long one.
"Birds
with teeth." This statement conflicts with the modern definition of
birds. All birds have a beak and feathers. But this ancient bird had teeth
and feathers. No other modern animal has feathers and teeth. So, how do
we classify it? It recently has been noted in new fossil finds, that the
beak in the Archaeopteryx was not developed until the Early Cretaceous.
WITH WHAT YOU KNOW OF MODERN BIRDS.
MAKE NOTE OF THE SHAPE AND STRUCTURE OF THE TWO TYPES OF BIRDS. DOES IT
MAKE SENSE THAT THE ARCHAEOPTERYX IS THE ANCESTOR TO THE MODERN BIRD?
