Temperature
The nature of fossils found in Champlain Sea sediments indicate an essentially constant cold temperatures bottom water throughout its marine history. The conclusion drawn from these observations is, again, that the temperature factor was not one of great control on the environment. The presence of Mya arenaria (a bivalve) associations in certain areas (shown in map below), however, is evidence of warm boreal water in these regions during the latter part of the marine episode. This is the only exception.
