MARINE ENVIRONMENTS

The distribution of benthonic invertebrate organisms, such as that of ostracodes and foraminifera, is greatly controled by three limiting factors: substrate, temperature and salinity.  In order to determine which of these three factors was the most prominent in the Champlain Sea paleoenvironment, both the marine sediments and the nature of the fossils found within them were studied.
