Before using the assemblage of foraminifera as pollution indicators, it is necessary to have a proper understanding of their response to environmental variables.  The purpose of this study area is to find information on the spatial distribution of foraminifera in paralic environments.

    Scientists will then be able to distinguish between benthic foraminiferas response to 'anthropogenic stresses' (man-made) and their response to 'natural environmental variability'.
