Cryptostigmata
Cryptostigmata are limited in their distribution by their degree of tolerance to a range of environmental factors. These include pH levels and soil moisture content.
Cryptostigmata
Some species have a very low tolerance to these factors and can be used as indicator species.
Examples: Ameronothrus maculatus and Chamobates tricuspidatus
Ameronothrus maculatus
Cryptostigmata like to inhabit straw and their microfossils indicate the unclean nature of a site resulting from wheat being left around for too long in one area of the site.
